Lt Col Max Friedauer, USAF Ret., Director

Max FriedauerLt Col Max Friedauer served as a navigator in the C-130E, T-29, T-43, and MC-130E accumulating over 4,900 flying hours with over 900 hours of combat time in Vietnam. He served four years at Mather AFB as a flight commander and section commander. His first Air Commando assignment was with the 7 SOS, serving as Squadron Chief Navigator and Chief of Plans. He then served in the Joint Special Operations Command and the 317 TAW as Chief of Plans and DO Executive Officer. He continued his SOF career at Headquarters 23 AF, as Chief of the Exercise Branch and at HQ AFSOC as Director of Current Operations. After retiring in 1992, he continued serving AFSOC as a contractor developing System Training Plans and establishing the Command’s Long Range and Strategic Planning Process. He is the founder and past president of the 7th Air Commando Society. He was the treasurer and main fundraiser for the Combat Talon Memorial Foundation to construct a memorial to fallen Combat Talon Airmen. He served as Air Force Association Chapter, State, and Region President, and AFA National Director. His decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross; Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters (OLC); Air Medal with seven OLC; Air Force Commendation Medal; Defense Presidential Unit Citation w/two OLC; Navy Presidential Unit Citation w/silver star; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award w/six OLC; Combat Readiness Medal; National Defense Service Medal w/one star; Air Force Expeditionayry Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with eight stars; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He is a proud life member of the Air Commando Association (ACA) and the Air Commando Hall of Fame. Elected to the ACA Board of Directors on December 7, 2018.
