Joe D. Harris

MSgt Joe Doyle Harris USAF (Ret) (1929 – 2017). Born in Draper, NC, June 16, 1929, Joe Doyle Harris was the 6th of 8 children. After high school, Joe enlisted in the US Navy towards the end of WWII. While working on KP he developed a lifelong aversion to Jell-O. Enlisting in the Coast Guard in 1949 Joe was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and even retained the 1955 chit for returning his 2 blankets and 1 pillow! The Air Force then became his career from 1956-1973. In 1966 he met the love of his life the widow Rita M Pascoe. Together they raised 4 children. Four generations gathered in Oct 2016 to celebrate his and Rita's 50th Anniversary. Joe served notably as a Hydraulic, Aircraft and Missile tech. Squadrons included: 1707th Fly Training Sq (Amph) (Mats), 1st Air Materiel Sq (Commando) (TAC), 850th Field Maintenance Sq (TAC) and the 33rd Aerospace Rescue & Recovery Sq (Philippines) with multiple commendations and medals throughout his 26+ years of military service. In retirement, "Harris" as he called himself, was a licensed HVAC technician who established a thriving business that developed lifelong friendships. He is remembered by Teresa Village and local restaurants as being a reliable professional. Joe was a proud member of the Air Commando Assoc and a caring and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his parents Pearl M Creason and Dughi O. Harris, Daughter Lori A Scott; siblings: Clarence, Dughi Jr., James, Mildred and Earlene.

Survived by his wife Rita M Harris; children: Lisa M Harris Ballow (Edwin), Russell A Pascoe (Cathy), Garry M Pascoe (Kim); grandchildren: Elizabeth Henry, Christopher and David Pascoe, Andrew and Shane Pascoe, and Anna and Emma Ballow; great-grandchildren Lillian and Kaleb Henry; Emily, Brayden and Hunter Pascoe; brothers: Marion and Earle Harris.

A visitation will be held Thursday, March 16 from 6-8pm at Emerald Coast Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 17 at 1pm at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 161 Racetrack Rd NW, Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32547.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Air Commando Assoc Scholarship Fund.
