Col. Michael M. Flynt, USAF, Ret., passed away on December 22, 2017, in Miramar Beach, FL. He was born on August 13, 1945 at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia, to Joseph and Lois Flynt.
Mike received his Bachelors of Science in Zoology from the University of Florida He furthered his education receiving a Master of Arts in Community Leadership – Urban and Regional Planning from the Central Michigan University and Masters of Public Administration in Coastal Zone Studies from the University of West Florida.
Mike was a patriot and dedicated his life to proudly serving his country. He was a United State Air Force Command Pilot, flying fixed wing aircraft and helicopters, who has received numerous accommodations and awards including the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal among many others. He was also faculty and commandant at the USAF Special Operations School.
Mike loved his community and was very involved and instrumental in its development. Mike is on the Board of Trustees for Northwest Florida State College, Past President of Institute of Senior Professionals at Northwest Florida State College, a founder of Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance, President of South Walton Utilities, a member of Choctawhatchee Military Council and Air Commando Association.
Most of all, Mike loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Charlotte Ann Flynt; his twins, Michael Flynt Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, and Laura Nemes and her husband, Robert; six wonderful grandchildren, Michael, Will, Jack and Liza Flynt and Sarah and Caroline Nemes; brother, John Flynt; aunts, Laura Brackett and Virginia Montgomery; and several cousins and nieces.
Funeral services were held at Village Baptist Church, 101 Matthew Blvd., Destin, FL, on Friday, December 29, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Northwest Florida State College Certificate and Training Programs or to Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance, in Mike's memory.
