ACA_banquet_2016The Air Commando Association’s annual convention/reunion was extremely successful. As is always the case, we had a great group of volunteers that made it all possible. The ACA is also fortunate to have sponsors for our annual event and we would like to acknowledge their support. We are deeply grateful to ZT Motors of Fort Walton Beach for being the 2016 Title Sponsor of the ACA Convention, and a big thanks to Arby’s who was our Awards Banquet sponsor, and the Corporate Partner Social was another success with Beach Community Bank’s help. We would like to thank Orbital/ATK for sponsoring the Heritage Seminar, and Lockheed Martin not only sponsored the golf tournament again but came through for us as the Sunday Beach BBQ sponsor. We appreciate Helen Back Pizza for providing delicious pizza to all the hungry golfers on Saturday too!

We could not forget to give a heartfelt thank you to David Krebs, son of Lt Col Dave Krebs who served our country years ago, David Krebs generously provides two annual scholarships to college-bound AFJROTC cadets each year. Dave also donates freshly caught fish straight from the Gulf for our fish fry every year from is local seafood business. Finally, ACA corporate partners continued support throughout the year allows us to provide young active duty airmen the chance to join us during our Awards banquet. Thank you to all who volunteered, donated, and sponsored us this year!

ACA_seminar_2016It was extremely moving to see members, young and not so young, joined together during the four-day gathering to share their stories, history, and experiences. Thursday night's social gathering was attended by a diverse group of air commandos from all tribes. The Heritage Seminar on Friday morning was educational and enjoyable, awards were presented by AFSOC leadership to deserving young special operators, and an outstanding presentation was made by guest speaker CMSgt (Ret) Mike Lampe. The outdoor fish fry and bar-b-que had amazing beach views and great food! Our annual golf tournament was another success at the Fort Walton Beach Municipal Golf Course. Saturday night’s Award Banquet had over 450 people in attendance, the ladies looked stunning and the men didn’t do too bad of job cleaning up either. The 2016 Hall of Fame inductees gave moving acceptance speeches, reminding all of us that “just doing my job” sometimes means more if you are an Air Commando. And finally, our Sunday Memorial afforded us all a moment to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by many of our fellow Air Commandos and their families.

We would like to share our amazing event with you and could not do it properly without Scott Schaeffler’s help. Scott is an Air Commando and a local photographer who donates his time and efforts to capturing the four-day event. Please visit his site at www.scottphotoworks.com, you can download his photos for free and share the link with friends.

If you missed this year’s convention we hope you will join us next year, the 2017 ACA Convention is scheduled for Oct 12th - 15th.
