CMSgt (Ret) Wayne G. Norrad served 30 years active duty from 1966 to 1997 mostly as a Combat Controller (CCT). He continued serving AFSOC Special Tactics as a Contractor and Civilian for almost 20 years, retiring on March 1, 2016. He served in many senior NCO leadership positions including Superintendent, Combat Control School; Team Leader (Silver Team) and later Superintendent, Detachment 1, Military Airlift Combat Operations Staff; Superintendent, 23rd Air Force CCT Division; Superintendent, 720th Special Tactics Group; Superintendent, 23d Special Tactics Squadron; AFSOC’s second Senior Enlisted Advisor and lastly as CCT and Pararescue Recruiting Liaison.
His combat experience includes one tour in Thailand (1968-1969), classified operations in Cambodia (1975), Operation Just Cause in Panama (1989) and Operation Desert Shield/Storm (1990-1991).
Chief Norrad’s ratings include Master Parachutist with Combat Jump Star, Military Freefall Jumpmaster, Combat Diver and Enlisted Aircrew Wings. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, three Bronze Stars, five Meritorious Service Medals, AF Commendation Medal, two AF Achievement Medals, and Outstanding Airmen of the Year Ribbon. He is in the ACA and Combat Control Hall of Fame and USSOCOM Hall of Honor. He also received the NDIA’s DeProspero Lifetime Achievement Award.
Chief Norrad served 19 years on the Board of Directors, Special Operations Warrior Foundation and 14 years as President, Combat Control Association. His past ACA positions include Director, Vice President and 10 years on the Hall of Fame Committee. He was elected as President on December 7, 2018.
